Beilstein (Mosel)

Location: About 650 feet (200 meters) from the ruins of the Beilstein Castle.  There are nearly 100 tombstones, mostly in Hebrew and not readable because of the old oak trees in the cemetery.  Most of the 20th century tombstones have no inscriptions.

Cochem (Mosel) (Old Cemetery)

 

Information gathered by Klaus H.S. Schulte in the spring of 1986.  The gravestone listings are from Spuren der Vergangenheit - Jüdisches Leben im Landkreis Cochem-Zell, by Angelika Schleindl, 1996.

 

Location:  The old Cochem Jewish cemetery is said to be located opposite the castle on an eastern slope of the hill, near the Schulsentrum, and the gravestones can only be seen partially where the tops lay above ground level, and only in late autumn. There is apparently no enclosure around the old burial grounds.

Location:   In Gondorf,  across  the  street  from  81  Obermark  Strasse,  which  is  the  Getränke Gilberg,  a soda and liquor business.   Obermark Strasse  is up the  steep hill and runs parallel with the main street along the Mosel River.

Location:  The cemetery is situated in a beautiful  estate. The address is: Dechant-Kreiten-Strasse, and the cemetery is opposite house number 4.

 

  Klaus H.S. Schulte wrote that there were 53 tombstones, from which 23 were damaged, without epitaphs. Henny Houweling-Zwart found 31 tombstones, from which five were hidden in brushwood.  She found two tombstones written in Hebrew, which she was unable to read. The following list is a combination of both Klaus H.S. Schulte's findings and those of Henny Houweling-Zwart. The gravestone numbers were made by Mr. Schulte.

Meerssen (near Maastricht), Zuid-Limburg, THE NETHERLANDS (HOLLAND)

 

Information gathered  by Leopold, Gail and Helene Hoenig on July  17, 1987.

 

Location:  On the north side of Tussen de Bruggen Straat, diagonally opposite number 21 Tussen de Bruggen, directly on the town border of Meerssen and Rothem. The Rothem Gem. Meerssen sign is located on the sidewalk in front of the southern end of the cemetery and the Meerssen sign is at the opposite side sidewalk across from the northern end of the cemetery. The little river, the Kleine Geul, flows in a nearly east-west direction along the northern perimeter of the cemetery. The cemetery is enclosed and locked and the family which resides at 21 Tussen de Bruggen has the key. The cemetery appears as Isräelitsche Begraatplaats --- with a Christian cross symbol alongside ---  on the town map.

 

    Rows A through H are on the right side of the walk that divides the cemetery in half. The numbers of the gravestones are as they appear from the far right of the entrance --- that part of the cemetery near the little river.

 

      There are three or four gravestoneson the ground alongside the inside of the front wall of the cemetery to the far right of the front entrance gate.
